Autumn is a calm, lyrical piece written for accapella choral ensemble. The text of the same name is taken from the Austrian poet, Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926). The poem depicts the shortness of life through the falling of the leaves. Rilke was a phenomenal poet at the turn of the century, writing over four hundred poems throughout his life as well as other works of literature. After his passing, his works were recognized by the higher class, but not as much by the common reader, and became more recognized and beloved by readers and scholars alike.
