Incense of the Lips, Op. 8 is a sacred concert band work inspired by Psalm 141:2 and the biblical practice of prayer. Written as an offering of worship, the composition reflects themes of reverence, repentance, gratitude, and dependence upon God through the incorporation of familiar hymn melodies. Commissioned by Matthew Elzinga for the band programs of several West Michigan Christian schools, the work is dedicated to the glory of Jesus Christ and serves as an invitation for performers and listeners alike to reflect on a life of prayer.
